WELCOME: Start here and Introduce Yourself! =)

I think you would find it incredibly enlightening for your learning journey on chords/harmony, to practice harmonizing on piano/keyboard. It shows the “natural dimension” of harmony in action in a way a piano roll editor can not really do. Just my advice to you, and sure, an ancient MIDI keyboard will do just fine.

Hi i’m a producer, composer and pianist based in Vienna. Raised and educated with Classical, Jazz and Progressive Rock music, I have been playing Piano since his early childhood and focus mainly within electronic music.

My first record (2005), “Gothic Chillout” was released through the Spanish label “Blanco y Negro” and supervised by Michel Huygen. “Gothic Chillout” had an original approach by blending professional opera singers with synthesised sounds.

After some years without publishing any music, I’m now on the prowl again and am publishing my music to different digital outlets like Spotify. I have also tried several promotion services and so far I’ve had quite a bit of disappointments with them.

I’m now looking into how to sell my services as a composer/producer for the multimedia market although I still have no clue how to do it

You can find me in Spotify

Good afternoon all,

First of all, I welcome the opportunities this board provides. It’s certainly great to have a sounding board for ideas as well as like minded creative folks with whom I can gain and give knowledge.

My name is Randy, I am a software engineer by trade but my real love has always been music. I’ve done midi composition for several decades, but only within the last five years or so have I decided to improve my skills and try to take my music a step further into the pro realm.

I was a bit hesitant at first to share my music, probably due to the same fears that many of you have: that the music isn’t “good enough”, that the good pieces I wrote must have been unintentionally copied from someone else, that I don’t have enough solid music theory behind me… But I reached the point where I realized I had at least a little God-given talent and I wanted and needed to make the most of it in the remaining decades (hopefully) of my life.

It would certainly be nice to make a bit of extra money while I am having fun composing, but I guess my main goals are to have more people hear and enjoy my music, and hopefully receive a bit of self validation in the process. I’ve always been one who was way harder on myself than anyone else, but enough of the psychology.

Religion is an important part of my life, so much of my music you may notice hymn-like qualities. I also have huge classical influence, having played bassoon in community orchestras for years.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. Although I feel I am far from considering myself a professional composer in the classic sense, I do have a bit of creativity and hopefully can provide useful comments to everyone in the forum.

I look forward to getting to know you all better in the near future.

Best wishes - Randy

Good evening Randy (it is in Sweden at this moment)!
I’ve actually noticed that many software engineers seem to gravitate to music production. A way to cope with technical frustrations perhaps, haha?

I completely understand your feeling, and I believe everyone is afraid of putting themselves out there. All artists…it’s like being that boy at the school trying to get courage to ask a girl out for prom. And heck, even John Williams himself shares many of these fears still to this day (according to himself).

And I am certain you will contribute a lot to this composer community, which I have a pet name for “The Fellowship of Composers”, because the friendship/kinship atmosphere and culture we built and I personally protect as a moderator.

If you have any questions on composition, production, gear, software, plugins, business, marketing…you see the sections, just create a topic and ask!

Sincerely
Mike

Welcome TS!
I’ve seen you already in the forum, and even joining the previous music composer contest. It’s great having you here, and I hope you will enjoy connecting with fellow composers, learning and sharing, and increase your professional network.

PS. I listened to your track now, and I enjoyed the mixing of styles. The starting tension piano part made me think about some “absurdity/strange” movie like those Danny Elfman often scores. But then it turned more beautiful and then it started dancing between these two conflicting emotins. I can see why you named your track “Strange Blending”. Very intriguing composition my friend, great work!

Hi Mike, hi all ye fellow composers,
my name is Jan Ziebolz, from Cologne Germany.
I came to composing this year due to corona crisis. In real life i am educating kids in music and history. Read along for a short bio if u like, thanks for having me. JAN

I started with the piano at the age of 6, but wanted to play in an orchestra. So i switched to the cello and my dream came true with 12. That was over 25 years ago. I never stopped playing in huge symphony orchestras.
I joined a “composing” class with around 14 but was more interested in arranging for orchestra. Because our local orchestra just played baroque and classical pieces i arranged filmmusic. Imagine there was no internet source for sheet music… I bought piano books or even wrote down the music by ear…
The conductor of our local school orchestra became ill short before a concert, as a member of the orchestra i got the chance to jump in as substitute… i never stopped conductiong orchestras since then…
I studied cello and today i am not a professional musician but a music teacher and music is my first love.
Corona made me re-imagine writing music. I began working with logic in march 2020 and bought my first sample library Albion One in april.
Its amazing how we can make quiet well-sounding orchestral music just with the help of our midikeyboard and some really nice libraries and software…
Glad to be here. Please feel free to contact me

yours sincerly JAN

Welcome Jan, I’m so glad you decided to join our community for composers!

It is also always a pleasure to a fellow music teacher here (I teach music with online courses).

We don’t have many professional instrumentalists in here, so it will be very interesting to get your perspective and thoughts on all the various topics we discuss. I bet you have very high demands on string sample libraries!

And a conductor as well…that seems like the holy trinity in music: instrumentalist, composer and conductor. A one man orchestra!

It’s an honor and pleasure to have you part of the composer community! Please feel free to jump into any of the topics, start new ones, connect with fellow members, and have fun.

Sincerely
Mikael “Mike” Baggström

Haha, well to be honest Jan, we are all a bunch of “music nerds” in here in this forum. I believe all artists are a bit like “misfits” in the normal society, but as you say we can connect so well with each other.

I even sometimes refer to us as “The Fellowship of Composers”, simply because we have so much respect, friendship and genuinely want to help each other.

One thing that makes this community stand out (imho), is the warm atmosphere and professional way of treating each other. So I hope you will decide to stay with us.

Also, if you get some time over, it would be amazing if you composed your cover/interpretation in your own style of the main theme from: Jurassic Park. Here’s the official post for it:

And to be honest, I ran Facebook groups for years, but for some reason there are a lot of people on Facebook and social media that decide to act in a disrespectful way, and even being mean to others. I was so tired of that, which is why I created this community last year, and I am so happy I did!

Thats really cool. But i realized the music groups to be friendly most the time. Perhaps i had good luck

Hi everyone! My name is Mert. I am a Turkish citizen living in Bangkok, Thailand. I’ve been playing drums for many years. As years go passing by, I found myself getting interested in electronic music. So I guess you can call me amateur for now. I am here to learn from all of you, good and kind people.

I have a song on Spotify and some others on Soundcloud but even though I am so eager to hear your comments on my music, unfortunately, I am too shy to share them with you at the moment. I hope I can do it one day.

Looking forward to getting to know you all talented musicians.

Sincerely,
Mert
