My educational background includes a BA in Jazz Composition from Berklee College of Music. I’ve studied composition, theory, and arranging privately with the late Frank Mantooth and others.
While at Berklee I studied trombone performance with Phil Wilson, Tony Lada, and Tom Plsek. I’ve studied trombone performance privately with Jiggs Whigham, Dave Steinmeyer, John Fedchock, Conrad Herwig, and Rick Simerly.
I’ve led jazz ensembles since 1991. I’ve released two big band CDs (the Stan Bann Big Band “Stratford Blue” and “Good Intentions”) and one with my current ensemble, Stan Bann’s Big Bone Band, called “Penmanship”.
In addition to commissions and publications I write, play, and conduct for two concert bands in the Twin Cities, the Minneapolis Trombone Choir, and several brass choirs in the area. My works have been performed by the USAF Airmen of Note, Bones West, the Oklahoma University Trombone Studio, and many more.
