WELCOME: Start here and Introduce Yourself! =)

Welcome Aron,
Glad to have you join us!

Even though you mention that you have some challenges due to your background, I would like to give you a positive/optimistic view as well. You are a programmer, and let me tell you I tried programming myself and could not do it. Because it requires so much patience, which is a great “skill” to have for any field you want learn and master. So just keep making music, improve your knowledge from courses, tutorials, books etc. and keep going, and I’m sure you will reach your goal some day!

Sincerely,
Mikael “Mike” Baggström

Thanks Mike.
Up to now I’ve been trying to learn music production pretty much just me & Youtube, Udemy, Skillshare, groove3 etc… I’m hoping to get some “professionals’ feedback” to improve my sound and instrumentation. Already thankful for being here.
BTW
I watched you live broadcast (podcast?) on “Composers On Youtube” I could hear from your voice the frustation of some getting a million views with an Assassin’s creed logo versus a well–planned, educational video  I hate “the game”. I don’t want to play it. Then again, it would be nice to get money off of music

That’s great Aron, also don’t get “trapped” in the: what instruments/plugins should I get to be able to make better music. It’s always best to just use the bare essentials and then focus your attention on improving your practical composition/production skills.

Haha, yeah…I had to vent my frustration in that video, even worse is all those vloggers who just walk around in their daily life and chatting and then get millions of views :stuck_out_tongue:

I actually have been working (literally “9 to 5” working) for the last few years and investing in some libraries and plugins and learning sound design and I’m quite happy with the music I can create with tools that I have. It is encouraging to say, that you don’t need big libraries or huge sound packs to make good music, but in reality it’s the whole “the mix is as good as the recording” thing… But, going a bit over the welcome" topic here. Thanks for the warm welcome!
Thanks,
Aron (ONE ABE)

Hello My name is David W. Aucoin
New composer and wanting to learn .
Is the contest for relaxing music still going on. Being new I need to learn what this site is all about. I saw the contest on VI Control but sometimes I check on the contest and they are either no longer available or I just can’t get information.
But anyway thanks for the site and I will try try to learn more.

Hello and welcome David, I’m very happy to see you join us.
I am even more thrilled to see that you want to learn and improve by taking action, and doing, the best way to evolve in any field in my opinion. Yes, the contest is going all through May, so you have time to compose a track for it, here is the information of the contest.

And when you have a track ready, make a new topic in the contest section here.

Please feel free to join into the discussions, start new topics, ask questions. Basically, this community is about learning, sharing and connecting as fellow composers. You will find sections that cover every aspect of being a composer.

Sincerely

Awesome a site that actually has life.
Thanks I will get to work on a track. It’s more I want to learn and get feed back. Of course it would be nice to win. lol but reality is to get good at anything you have to listen to feedback. I think i have found a place for that. I took your course on udemy and I was surprised to see you heading up this site. What a great surprise.
Thanks you Mikael.

Thank you very much for your kind words David, as with all things in life seems to do, this community/forum website sort of just happened! :stuck_out_tongue:

I was feeling overwhelmed by keeping up with discussions/questions on all social media feeds like YouTube, Facebook etc. And I was finding Facebook groups to be so…well…chaotic. I am a big fan of good order and structure, and I might be old fashioned but I much prefer a good topic/section based forum for this reason.

Apart from the contest, we have a dedicated section to post any style of music composition, where you can ask for feedback. The only thing I (we all) ask for is that you write a decent description of your track when you post it in there so that we can get some insights into it. Both creative choices and your vision, as well as technical insights into the composition, production, sounds etc.

You can find the music section as a sub section to “Your Member Area”. It’s simply called “Your Music”.

And please call me Mike, we are all friends in here.

Welcome Abem, yeah I assume we music nerds are all locked up in our studio as that is our “usual state” in any case. :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow, that’s some experience you have, and I love the wide range of styles you do (being open-minded is so important in art as much as in life in general).

If you want to post your compositions for feedback we have a dedicated section for that here. I also hope you dive in and join the discussions, share/learn and connect with your fellow composers/producers in here. It’s a way cooler place than all those “lazy and spammy FB groups” in my humble opinion. :stuck_out_tongue:

Mikael “Mike” Baggström

Hi everyone!

I am Fernando from Paraguay South America! Little place but nice
I am a 60 yrs old gynaecologist and former pop rock musician back in the days…
Now I’m back in music as a hobby after 35 years!
I am busy producing my own pop songs but really really flling in love with cinematic music!

I restarted my music with Logic Pro about 4 years ago and it was a very steap road for me… but it was a blessing finding Mike’s YouTube channel and he was, without knowing it, my mentor in Logic!!!
I hope I can get in touch with good people, willing to share and learn.

Keep the music flowing guys!!!

Hello!

My name is Jake, I am a composer/arranger based in Ohio, where I primarily write music for marching band. I just completed my Master’s in Trumpet Performance, but in the last year or so got Logic Pro due to that involvement in the marching band world. This led me to really delve into what I can use Logic for and a few weeks ago and I found your courses on SkillShare!

Now I am trying to hone my skills in writing Royalty Free music/Trailer music. Really happy to join the community!

Hej & tack, Mikael!

PS: If anyone is interested in reading my reply to Mike in english, please let me know,
as I then will post an international version of my lingustically intricate reply to our Master-in-charge.

Greetings! My name is Adrian Brooks. I live in Southern England, near to Stonehenge. I am an amateur composer who enjoys listening to and creating music in the epic hybrid genre. My initial entry into music was as a chorister and one fine Christmas, when Santa brought me a Casio 1000P keyboard. Growing up in the 1980s, I listened to a lot of music by artists such as Visage, Depeche Mode, Ultravox, Howard Jones, Nik Kershaw, Marillion, Toyah etc, so always had this fascination for synths and New Wave. Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to accumulate some sound libraries, plus Studio One and a Komplete Kontrol S49 keyboard. My modern influences include Thomas Bergersen, Hans Zimmer, Clinton Shorter and Troels Folman. I hope to share my compositions and get some feedback about structure, mixing and vibe. Mixing and mastering are my most difficult areas to grasp and manage. I look forward to hearing other members’ tracks and taking part in the occasional competitions to see what I can learn.
Regards, Adrian.
