Hi
I was looking at Mikael’s course on Udemy about Orchestrating Strings. Not sure if itIs what I am looking for.
I play in a band and am building up a library of backing tracks to use for live performances.
Many of the songs we do (jazz, country, blues) have strings and I am struggling to get to grips with recreating string parts for my tracks.
I know quite a bit of music theory. I use Logic. I have som nice string libraries. I just need how to “bring it all together “ in the DAW.
So not really composing (I am copying really).
Can anybody suggest an on-line course that will help with this pls?
Thanks
Mark
Hi Mark,
i can highly recommend Alex Moukalas tutorials:

also there are so many string (layering) tutorials on youtube:

The most imporant thing about strings is layering. Use octaves for the different instruments (Violin 1&2, Viola, Celli, Bass) and give them a nice expression with your mod wheel. So the sound gets more and more closer to realistic.
Have Fun,
Sincerely yours,
Michael
I have a YouTube video on writing for strings that you might be interested in:

Many thanks for the recommendation, they all look great. I will be watching them today!
